I have so much motivation and energy I just want to keep moving and doing things! I know I'll just doze off and sleep through things I need to do like work in eight hours! No! I am not on the meth!
A Christian tried to convert me in the most SLICK manner today. It took this guy ten minutes of interesting conversation to lead me on until he dropped the Jesus bomb. No offense to any Christians out there, I just have no religous beliefs/needs and this missionary approached me with Jesus in a subtle nd prolonged and new method. I had to think for about twenty minutes after if this guy was a missionary before I realized his intent.
Okay, so there is this guy sitting on campus, outside, with a bunch of cards with photos on them. You walk over to see what is on them and he enthusiastically asks you if you'll take a survey that is being done on college campuses. You think survey/college=creditability so you agree.
He then asks you to pick out three of the roughly two-dozen cards and asks that you pick out cards that represent your life. The pictures range from a close-up of a dollar bill to a family to a homeless man to a sunset to a fuzzy picture of alcohol to a bored young girl to a man engulfed by darkness holding a flash light and so on.
You pick out three that seem interesting and explain their relationship to your life. He stays enthusiastic and is engaging. He likes your viewpoints and identifies or has not perceived that message before which is exciting to him.
He then asks you to pick out three cards, the same or different, that show what you want your future to be like. You repeat your process of choosing and explaining and he repeats his engaging mood.
Then, he asks you to pick out one card to show how you imagine God, whether you believe in God or not. This one might take a while for you ut you pick one out and explain your case to which he replies that he didn't think of it like that because he imagines a Lord Almighty God who gave His only Son, our Lord to us up in Heaven. You know, the old bearded white guy.
He asks if you're on facebook or if you'll exchange email.
-End 2nd person narrative. As soon as he brought up Jesus I shifted the conversation to an end because I was feeling the missionary vibe and I concluded he was a missionary because I walked away and when I came back I noticed that the card deck had instructions on how to navigate the discussion and if the discussion has structure and if it ends on talking about Jesus...come on.
I'm not pissed, I'm not really sure how to feel. I think Christians have been boxed in, kinda, but at the same time they can be pushy with their beliefs and especially from the fundamentalist camp.
Love ya guys! Autumn is beautiful and so are you.

First oil painting due tomorrow.
I could have started late Thursday night and put it off to start Saturday morning. That's my fault.
There is a liquin medium that when added to oil is supposed to quicken the dry time from days(weeks-months) to half a day.
My first layer is still wet! Eeek!
Oil is kinda fun. It's so beautiful to mix. It looks like frosting, well, toxic frosting.
My other art classes are very fundamental. The least studio driven is called Idea & Form and it is a study of the language of images. We're discussesing how people form perceptions and values of images. The views of people boil down to our cultural, social, and historical context. Images are created with the same rules. The value of an image has those rules along with uniqueness and market prices. AND STUFF!!!! Or first project is to redesign the American dollar bill. I'm still brainstorming. And I demand you all help! If you could change the imagery on the dollar bill what would you create?
Much love! Happy Autumn!

School is creeping closer and closer. I can throw a rock and hit the horizon.
My work is scheduling me three to four days a week already and I might work less once school begins. I always feel a strong need to be working, maybe just to stay busy. I'm used to working full time alongside school but my current job is being rad with accommodating whatever I need. I work for good people and even though the pay puts me in the poverty level and I have minute benefits, the good management makes the "dead-end" job worthwhile. And I do meet stellar customers.
I just finished visiting my home town and I had an amazing time. Cheyenne seemed gold with good qualities. There were tarnishes here and there, but I still enjoy the place. I still feel content to have returned to Portland, though. I enjoy sticking my roots here. I feel I have so much potential here. Maybe one day I might return to Cheyenne, but I have to continue my affair with Portland.
I love you guys. Happy transition to Autumn!

I camped outside of Olympia, WA with a lot of family last weekend. Ate too much meat, played a lot of tag, hung out at a beach on Puget Sound teaming with sea life. Good time.
Flew to Minneapolis, MN on Monday. Saw Curtis after too long. Stayed at his place and visited a lot of his friends, walked around the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), checked out the art museum ran by MCAD, walked around the city. I had plenty of nerdy art and philosophy talks which was amazing to help get me on track for school in September. I drank A LOT. Damn it.
Yesterday my sister picked me up and drove me to her house in Madison, WI and I've been helping her pack and clean her house until this moment. We're about to grab some food and probably drink.
We'll explore Madison some tomorrow and then early Sunday I return home. Mmmm...I miss free Subway.
Adios gatos.

I finished my social work class with a "B" sadly. But I learned amazing information and am super stoked to continue engaging in the field.
I watch democracynow.org almost everyday. I've bugged a few of you about it (ALYSSA) and you all should give it a watch sometime. Good news as a watchdog for governments, especially the US, and not a propaganda tool.
I promise art, soon.
I saw "Watchmen" yesterday and was pretty impressed. I like the themes discussed like the importance of the many over the few, sacrifice, human interpersonal relationships, the means to achieve peace, and whatever else you might add. I met a cool artist friend. We share a gruesome yet lighthearted humor. We hit off right away and I think he'll be one of those life lasting friends. Its still early but we're pretty excited about eachother, which is especially good as we'll both be in the PSU art program. I'll have someone to sit with at lunch!
This Wednesday I'll be heading up to Washington for a few days to camp with some family. Then on the 17th I'm flying to Minneapolis, MN to visit my friend Curtis for a few days. My sister Haley will then pick me up and I'll help her clean and pack at her home in Madison, WI as she will be going to study abroad in England. Then I fly home to P-town. Summer break!
I love you guys!

I just finished watching "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices" for my social work class. Here are some quick facts I learned from the 2005 documentary:
*Wal-Mart drives down retail wages 3 billion dollars every year.
*Because Wal-Mart employees face low wages they must seek government assistance(such as food stamps, medicaid, ect.) that costs taxpayers $1,557,000,000.00.
*Wal-Mart uses anti-union propaganda on its employees.
*Wal-Mart forces employees to work off the clock as to not reach overtime, or face punitive results(usually termination which a single mother cannot afford).
*John Lehman, an ex store manager, was told to and showed how to cheat employees out of overtime.
*2005 had lawsuits in 31 states against Wal-Mart.
*Women are systematically discriminated against by Wal-Mart as are other minorities like blacks. (One women asked her supervisor why she received no promotions after amazing work was told there is no place for her kind there. She then asked if he was referring to her gender of her (black) color. He replied "2 out of 2 isn't bad.")
*Wal-Mart receives generous subsidies to open shop in many communities, benefits that are not allocated to ma and pop shops.
*There were 26,699,678 square feet of vacant Wal-Mart lots.
*Wal-Mart has numerous environmental violations such as leaving herbicides and pesticides outside where they have run off into drinking water.
*Factory workers for Wal-Mart in countries like Chine and Honduras face systems that devalue their humanity and thy are forced to lie to inspectors about their conditions or lose their jobs.
*The Walton family(family owners of Wal-Mart) are one of the top te richest families in America. They have a worth in the tens of billions. They have given less than 1% of their wealth to charity. Bill Gates has given 58% of his.
*Wal-Mart employees together donated 5 million dollars toward a charity that helps fellow Wal-Mart employees in times of disaster, like tornado destruction, while the Waltons together donated $6000.
You can watch the documentary here http://freedocumentaries.org/film.php?id=105

[30 Jun 2009|03:30am] |
(This is my thoughts one week ago):
Last weekend was good.
For Pride all I did was visit the festival and play hacky sack. There was good live music and a burlesque show going on. I'm sad that I missed so many activities like the parade.
Last Saturday was also World Naked Bike Ride. I didn't know it but I got off of work right as it started and I luckily had me bike and joined. And man! It was such a beautiful experience of human congregation and and joy in my life. About 5000 Portlanders particapated in all nuances of nudity from wearing undies to wearing nothing. Some sported elaborate headresses and body paint as well. Beautiful and astounding.
Spent another weekend in Olympia this week which was relaxing.
Finished reading "Stranger in a Strange Land" which you all must read...or be doomed.

Saturday night I was walking to the bus stop to meet Alex and galloping my way came a rather tall faggy looking gent. He calls out my way,"Hii-iii!" "Uhmm, hello." He then points at me,"I want you! You hotty! How big's your dick?" "Heh, not that big." "Eww, I cast you out! I only want big dicks!"
He continues to mutter and strides off into the Portland night.
Damn anatomy holding me back.
And I am still working on homework. However, I'm sure on two A's, a sure B with a potential as big as my dick to be an A, and a good ol' I didn't do anything in this math class C and I'm just now starting my homework for the fnal chapter to study for the exam due tomorrow which I have to take tonight 'cause it's Kelley's birthday.

Which is even harder when I can read Batman graphic novels instead. If you guys can get your hands on "The Long Halloween" or "Dark Victory" by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, do it! The plots are good and the style and illustrations are beautiful/bitching.
Fuck, I have to go read them now.
Woot, and then off to volunteer!

My dreams last night started with me in a collapsing cave. I was able to escape as well as help others out. Whew! I hate dream where I die.
Then, for those of you familiar with Star Trek characters, I had become a Borg but I had retained my individuality. I was just all fucked up looking and emotionless. Some people tried to blow me up, but once again I escaped. I found myself at a clinic that specialized in removing Borg technology and I became fully human again. This part of the dream was creepy. There were other Borg there made human again and one nurse had taken a cybenetic skull and placed it on her blonde head, wearing th skull like a hat.
Then Alex woke me up. Good morning!

"House of cards" - Radiohead |

I've been trying to work on an hour's worth of homework for the past two days and continually find other stuff to do. I've cooked so much today. Also, I now live in the basement below the bathroom and enjoy it. Sure, it's way colder, less sunlight, a set of stairs away from the toilet, and can flood easily, however the sounds of water running through the pipes is quite soothing and I feel a comfortable seclusion away from the busy house activities of the living room, kitchen, and the three other bedrooms. I have a washer and dryer as tables also.
Hrm. Life situations like roommates and and money has been way stressful this last week. But I'm still super stoked to be alive and active. I don't ignore any bull-shit in our world, but lately I've felt nothing but contentness. Ahhhhh.......
